Organizational commitment is measured with an instrument previously developed and validated (Rego and Souto, 2004) in Portugal and Brazil. It includes self-report scales, measuring affective, normative and continuance commitment. Most items were collected in the literature (e.g., Mowday et al., 1979; Allen & Meyer, 1990; Meyer et al., 1993) and others were adapted or created by the authors after exploratory analysis aimed to meet the idiosyncrasies of the Portuguese language.
