Overall aim

These interactive workshops are part of the XXIV Madrid Science and Innovation Week, aimed at PhD students and early-career researchers in the field of business management.

Their main objective is to increase the chances of acceptance of articles in academic conferences in Spanish, with a focus on the XIII Conference of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management 2025.

The workshops will feature renowned experts who will provide tools and strategies to present solid and well-structured research.

1st Online Workshop: Ideas factory

This first interactive workshop is designed to stimulate creativity and generate new research ideas in the field of management. Participants will be able to:

Identify and develop innovative research questions in key areas of management, with a particular focus on the Ibero-American region.

Explore emerging trends and research gaps to stand out at conferences such as the XIII Iberoamerican Academy of Management Conference.

Engage in divergent thinking exercises to generate diverse questions and perspectives.

Objective: This workshop is ideal for those seeking to explore bold and innovative ideas and define a central concept for their future research.

Date: November 5, 2024
Duration: 2 hours (15:00 – 17:00 Madrid, Spain time, CET/UTC+1)

Structure:

-Introduction (5 minutes)

-Plenary session: What does a good idea for a conference paper look like? (45 min + 15 min Q&A)

-Break (5 minutes)

-Idea pitches in breakout groups (40 minutes)

-Closing remarks (5 minutes)

-Optional: Networking/Informal discussion (5 minutes)

INSTRUCTIONS

To ensure our workshop is productive, we ask that you prepare your research idea pitch in advance. You will have 3 minutes to present your idea to a small group, followed by 5 minutes of feedback. Please structure your pitch based on the guidelines below and ensure that you cite any supporting literature to demonstrate the academic grounding of your idea.

Your pitch could cover the following key points (if you are unsure of any of these points, do not worry, this is what these workshops are for!):

*Problem Description. Briefly describe the problem you aim to address. Why is this problem important, relevant and timely?

*Background Literature. Provide a brief overview of key research relevant to your problem. What gaps or limitations exist in the current literature?

*Research Question. What is your primary research question?

*Potential Data. What type of data would be necessary to address your research question? How do you plan to collect or access this data? How would you analyse it?

*Expected Contribution. What contribution do you expect your research to make? How will it advance existing theory or empirical knowledge?

Key Tips:

^Keep it concise: You have only 3 minutes, so focus on the essential information.

^Be clear: Present your idea in a way that is easy to understand, even for those outside your field.

^Cite your sources: As demonstrated in the examples, include references to academic work that supports your research idea.

2nd Online Workshop: Crafting your conference paper

The second workshop focuses on transforming the idea selected during the Ideas Factory into a well-structured, high-quality paper for presentation at scientific conferences. The following aspects will be covered during the workshop:

How to structure a paper according to management conference standards.

Approaches to highlight the theoretical and methodological contribution to academic and professional audiences.

Practical tips for writing impactful abstracts, introductions, and conclusions that capture the attention of reviewers.

Objective: By the end of this workshop, participants will have a solid outline of their paper, along with feedback and suggestions to continue refining their work before presenting it.

Plenary session: Crafting your paper for the AOM and IAOM (45 min + 15 min Q&A)

Instructions

To ensure our workshop is productive, we ask that you prepare an extended abstract in advance. You will have 15 minutes to present your idea to a small group, followed by 5 minutes of feedback. Please structure your extended abstract following the guidelines below and ensure that you cite any supporting literature to demonstrate the academic grounding of your idea.

Your extended abstract should cover the following key points:

Title: Provide a concise and informative title for your paper that clearly indicates the focus of your research.

Introduction: Briefly describe the research problem and question you are addressing, the context, and why it is significant.

Background literature: Provide an overview of the body of literature underpinning your research. Include key theories, concepts, or models, and cite relevant and up-to-date literature to contextualize your contribution.

Research method(s): Provide a summary of your research method(s), data sources and data analysis. Briefly explain how these choices align with your research question.

Findings (if applicable): If your research is at an advanced stage, summarize any initial findings or results. If not, explain what you expect to find and how you plan to analyse the data.

Contribution: Articulate the core contribution(s) of your research. How does your work contribute to the academic discourse, and why is it relevant to the conference theme or track?

Remember, the extended abstract should not exceed 500-1000 words. Please ensure that your references are properly formatted according to the conference’s style guidelines.
